We always need to be prepared to take care of our animals, especially during disasters such as fire, flood, or other emergencies. In cases of fire or natural disasters, you need to be prepared in case your pet gets injured, lost, or has to be evacuated. For the very purpose of spreading awareness and educating citizens on the precautionary measures to be taken for animals. Indian government released a national disaster management plan for animals, as per the national disaster management plan released by Indian government, the rescue and relief of animals is an integral part of disaster operations in the country. The plan includes all safety measures and precautionary action required to safeguard the lives of animals.
The Disaster Management Plan (DMP) was prepared by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries. It is a collective endeavour by the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), the World Animal Protection and the Policy Perspectives Foundation (PPF).
The DMP is launched to protect and prevent animals with minimal to no mitigation losses of livestock resources at times of disaster. DMP is further segregated in three components -
The DMP aims to boost and support the efforts of States and Union Territories in coping up with disasters in the best possible manner. It lays down and lays down the brief guidelines for animal management during disasters like drought, floods, cyclones, earthquakes and other man-made disasters in the States and Union Territories.
